Awash with wit, lust and distraction…..one of the most inventive Blues recordings ever made by a British artist. MOJO ****
This album is a rare combination of cleverness and craft. **** (Excellent) PENGUIN BOOK OF BLUES RECORDINGS

A Bigger Plate of Meat & Potatoes brings together Ian Siegal’s much acclaimed album Meat & Potatoes (first released April 2005) with a DVD of his powerful performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival, where he performed on the main stage with Jamie Cullum and Joss Stone.

The CD

Meat & Potatoes is one of those rarities: a truly convincing album of original songs inspired by some of the great names of the Blues, yet at the same time fresh and contemporary. This album covers a lot of ground, from classic R&B, Louisiana stomp and funk, to Chicago and Delta blues - all underpinned by the power and emotion of Siegal’s voice. The band – British, plus a Dane - swings like it was born in Muscle Shoals!

The DVD

  • Dobly Digital stereo 2 and 5.1 Surround Sound
  • DVD PAL (code free/all regions)
  • Total duration 89 mins

Whether fronting his band or sitting on a stool with his old resonator guitar, Siegal’s live performances are captivating. “The man is a star. Period” is how one reviewer described Siegal after an appearance at London’s Jazz Café. Siegal’s power and charisma are captured in spades on this DVD, shot-for-broadcast at the 2005 North Sea Jazz festival in front of some 12,000 people.

Live performances of eight songs from the Meat & Potatoes album accompany storming renditions of I Ain't Drunk (popularised by Ike Turner) and You Don’t Love Me, the Willie Cobbs song recorded by numerous people but which arguably Siegal makes his own as the finale to the show.

Bonus material: The DVD also contains an interview with Siegal and a fly-on-the-wall view of early morning rehearsals.

Please note: This DVD is presently only available in PAL format. If you are in a country where the standard is NTSC (i.e. USA/Canada), you will need a multi-format DVD player.
